Smart DNS Proxy is a DNS proxy service marketed primarily for unblocking streaming websites. The service is also paired with a VPN ie. you create one account and get access to both the proxy service and the VPN.
Before ever using a VPN service, Smart DNS Proxy was the first service I ever used to unblock streaming sites like Netflix and BBC iPlayer. You just need to add a pair of their ip addresses to your device (my router in my case) and you can unblock sites without installing any software.
A 14-day free trial gets you started with Smart DNS Proxy although the availability of a free trial may depend on your location. If no free trial is available to you, you can still use the service with a paid subscription.
On this page, I’m going to show you how easy it is to sign up with Smart DNS Proxy and other things you may want to know about the service. You do not need a credit card to try the service so there really is no reason not to use it for 14 days to test for yourself.
Getting Started With Smart DNS Proxy Free Trial
One of the best things about Smart DNS Proxy is that you can start using their service for 14 days without the need for a credit card.
You simply provide your email address, choose a password and then activate your account. They provide guides for setting up your device or even your router if you want your entire network to access the service.
Here is a walk-through of how easy it is to get started.
1. Create your Smart DNS Proxy account
From the home page, you can click on the ‘Try It Now” button to sign up for a Smart DNS Proxy account.
Creating your account is easy and you do not need to input any credit card payment details to get started.
All you need to do is fill in your first name, your email address and create a password before hitting the signup button.
2. Check your email to activate
After submitting your signup info, Smart DNS Proxy will send you an activation email. You’ll need to check your email, find the message from Smart DNS Proxy and click the link to activate your IP.
At this point, you will be able to use both the proxy service and the VPN service.
3. Account activated. Go to setup.
Clicking the activation link in your email will take you directly to your account home page inside Smart DNS Proxy. You’ll be able to see information about your account such as when your free trial expires and the regions for the most popular streaming websites supported.
Your next step is to setup your DNS. To do this there are some handy guides that will take you through the set up process for your chosen device. Just hit the Setup link between the three checked off settings.
You’re now ready to unblock streaming websites like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and more.
Smart DNS Proxy Price After Free Trial
The monthly subscription fee for Smart DNS proxy is $5.90. Subscribers can get even lower pricing by subscribing for longer periods.
For example, you can get 12% off by subscribing for 3 months at $15.58. There is also an annual option and a more ideal 24 month option. The 24 month option gets you more than half off at $59.47 (58% off).
Finally, if you don’t want to keep getting billed, you can pay a one-time fee with a Lifetime subscription which costs $200.
Smart DNS Proxy doesn’t ask for your credit card information when you sign up for the free trial so you can pay at any time after your trial ends. The service wouldn’t work after the trial expires until you decide to pay. It’s best to subscribe at any time during your free trial period to avoid service interruption.
Is Smart DNS Proxy Any Good?
Smart DNS Proxy provides two services. It started out with the proxy service where you would just add their DNS to your device and get connected to their servers so you could unblock websites.
You do not need to install anything so you don’t have to start or stop the service as you’re able to with VPNs.
Smart DNS proxy later added a VPN to their services. Both services have a small list of servers that you can connect to. The list of servers is small when compared to other VPNs but this can be either a good thing or a bad thing depending on your preference.
The service is mainly used for unblocking websites and not so much for privacy or security. If you need the latter two, there are much better options available on the VPN market.
For unblocking websites, Smart DNS Proxy works very well and you could watch any streaming services they support without any problems. The speed is fast and comparable to much larger VPN services on the market.
I stopped using Smart DNS Proxy a long time ago and just use a VPN for unblocking websites because Netflix started to detect the server I was using. This meant I couldn’t unblock Netflix at the time.
This was a long time ago so I believe they’ve fixed this problem.
If you want to evaluate the service for yourself then you don’t even have to submit your credit card details to get started. Just sign up and set up your device to get going. Then use the service for two weeks and see how it works for you.
