If you’ve been searching for a Viki free trial, you’ve probably come across a few articles claiming one exists.
Most of those are outdated. Here’s the current situation.
Viki does not offer a free trial. Both the Standard and Plus plans show a “Subscribe now” button with no trial period attached.

This wasn’t always the case as Viki did offer a 7-day free trial in the past, but it’s no longer available on either plan as of 2026.
That said, there are still a few legitimate ways to watch Viki content without paying for a full subscription. Here’s what actually works.
What Viki Does Offer For Free
Viki has a free ad-supported tier that anyone can access without a subscription. You don’t even need a credit card – just create a free account and start watching.
The catch is that the free tier comes with real limitations.
You’re capped at 720p video quality, ads play throughout, and not everything in the library is available. Most of the latest releases and premium content sit behind the Viki Pass paywall.
What you do get on the free tier is a selection of older titles and in some cases the first few episodes of a series – enough to get a feel for a show but not enough to finish it.
For casual browsing or testing whether you like Viki’s interface, the free tier serves a purpose. For anyone who wants to follow a currently airing drama or access the full library, it falls short quickly.
How To Watch More On Viki Without Paying
If you want to watch premium content on Viki without paying, it’s not impossible. There are a few ways which I’ll show you below.
Viki’s Annual K-Drama Day
Once a year, usually in September, Viki runs a K-Drama Day event that opens up premium content for free for a limited window.
It’s not a substitute for a full trial but it does give you a taste of what a Viki Pass unlocks. Keep an eye on Viki’s social media channels or sign up for their newsletter if you want to catch it when it comes around.
The Community Contributor Program
This one is genuinely underrated.
Viki’s platform is built on a global community of volunteers who subtitle content in dozens of languages. If you contribute subtitles, segmenting, or translations, you can earn a free Viki Pass through the contributor rewards program.
It’s not instant – you need to put in real work – but if you’re bilingual or fluent in a language Viki subtitles in, it’s a legitimate route to free access. You can find out more about becoming a contributor directly on Viki’s community pages.
Promotional Offers
Viki occasionally runs promotional deals through third-party partners – discounted first months, bundled offers, or limited-time extended trials.
These aren’t guaranteed and they come and go without much notice. If you’re not in a rush to subscribe, it’s worth waiting to see if something comes up.
Following Viki on social media (Instragram | X) or checking deal aggregator sites occasionally is the easiest way to catch these when they appear.
Is a Viki Pass Worth Subscribing to Without a Trial?
The honest answer is that it depends on how serious you are about Asian drama content.
Viki’s library covers Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, and other Asian dramas and movies. It’s broader than Kocowa+ in terms of regional content, though it lost its entire KBS, MBC, and SBS catalogue when the Kocowa partnership ended in November 2025.
If your primary interest is K-dramas from Korea’s major broadcasters, that’s a significant gap worth knowing about before you subscribe.
The Standard plan at $7.99 per month gives you ad-free access, the full library in 720p, and one device at a time. The Plus plan at $11.99 per month adds 1080p, four simultaneous devices, and offline downloads. For a household sharing an account or anyone who watches on the go, Plus is the better value despite the higher price.
If you’re on the fence, the free tier is the closest thing to a trial Viki currently offers. Spend some time on it, find a show you want to watch, and see if hitting the paywall after a few episodes is enough to convince you. For most people who are genuinely into Asian dramas, it usually is.
Considering Kocowa+ Instead?
If a free trial is important to you before committing to a paid streaming subscription, Kocowa+ is worth a look. It offers a full 14-day free trial with no restrictions – you get complete access to everything on the platform from day one.
Kocowa+ is more narrowly focused than Viki. It’s exclusively Korean content from KBS, MBC, and SBS but it’s the best dedicated service for that specific library, with same-day subtitled episodes and professional translations in five languages.
If Korean dramas are your primary interest, it’s the stronger option and the free trial makes it a no-risk way to find out.
The Bottom Line
Viki doesn’t offer a free trial right now, and there’s no indication that’s changing anytime soon.
The free ad-supported tier is your best option for testing the platform without paying. If you’re committed to Asian drama content beyond just Korean shows, a Viki Pass is reasonably priced for what it offers.
But if you want a genuine free trial of a dedicated Korean streaming service, Kocowa+ is currently the better starting point.
