The most successful people have this one thing in common – they’re always continually gaining knowledge through reading.
Reading non-fiction books can take up an insane amount of time though. Websites like Instaread can help you get all the key insights from top business books in about 15 minutes of your time.
Instaread condenses a book that might take you a few days to read into just the important takeaways via text or audio. They have over 1000 book summary titles on their website available with one of their membership subscriptions.
A free 7-day trial gets you started and then you can choose between a monthly, yearly or lifetime plan to keep reading new book summary titles.
You can sign up with your email address to get started or connect your Facebook account. Both an Apple and Android app are available for mobile devices.
How To Start Your Instaread 7-Day Free Trial
Instaread doesn’t have any free membership access on it’s website.
To get started, you get the free 7-day trial so that you can check out the service and then you subscribe with one of the paid options.
You’ll need your credit card to get started. You won’t be charged until after the trial is over so I’m going to walk you through how to sign up and how to get your 7 days free without getting charged at all.
1. Sign up with your email address.
From the Instaread homepage or any page on the website, you’ll notice the blue “Try Instaread” link in the top menu.
- Click on the “Try Instaread” link. You’ll get a pop-up which allows you to enter your email address.
- Enter your main email address. You’ll need to get notifications and confirm your account so use a real address that you have access to.
There is no way to join via Facebook when signing up but you’re able to connect your account from inside the membership area.
2. Set your password
Once you’ve entered your email address, you’ll need a password to go with it for logging into the site. You’ll be able to set it up in this step.
3. Choose a plan
Now that your login is setup, you can choose a subscription plan that you’ll want to continue with after the trial ends.
The most popular option is the annual plan which gives a 20% discount allowing access for $7.49/month billed annually at $89.99.
I chose to go with the 1 month plan for $8.99. You also have the option of choosing the lifetime access plan which is a one time fee of $299.
4. Enter billing information
The next step is to enter your credit card information so that you can be billed when the trial is over. You can cancel billing at anytime even during your free trial if you prefer not to be auto-charged.
If you have a coupon code, you can enter it here to get a discount on your subscription fee once the trial is over. Enter your billing info and click the “Start Your Free Trial” button to continue.
Once you’ve completed this step, you’ll be redirected to your members area where you can start reading or listening to your book summary titles and connect your Facebook account.
How To Cancel Instaread During Free Trial
If you’re just trying out the service and for some reason you prefer not to be auto-charged, you can cancel at any time to prevent this from happening. You’ll still be able to enjoy your 7-day free trial and any remaining time left.
If you decide after that you’d like to keep your membership, Instaread has a convenient “Restart your membership” button which you can click to resubscribe.
To cancel your Instaread auto-billing during the free trial, you can follow these steps.
1. Manage your membership
- Click on your email address at the top of the page and then click on “Membership”.
- Click on “Edit” next to your subscription pricing.
2. Review your subscription
The next page lets you see information about your subscription including the pricing and subscription type. You’re able to change your subscription here and see when it renews (when the trial ends).
Choose “Cancel Membership” right at the bottom of the page.
3. Continue cancelling
Instaread doesn’t really want you to cancel your account and they would love to make you happy by giving you a deal so they can keep you subscribed.
50% off on the annual plan is sweet – you can switch and save if you chose the monthly plan or you can get a 20% off monthly if you chose monthly like I did.
However, if you just want to cancel and subscribe later, just choose the “No thanks” link below to keep cancelling your membership.
4. “No Thanks”
Instaread gives you a warning that you’ll lose your membership benefits if you cancel your account.
You already know that I’m sure so click the blue button to keep cancelling your membership.
5. Complete the quick survey
Why would you cancel your account? Instaread would like to know so they could make future members happier.
Unfortunately, they don’t have the option in their survey which lets you select “to avoid getting auto-charged” so I chose to let them know that I don’t plan to use it often.
Choose an option then click the blue button to continue cancelling.
6. Membership cancelled
Your membership is cancelled after the quick survey. You’ll see information on how much time remains in your free trial and you’ll have the option to restart your membership.
Do not click on the restart your membership button as it will undo the entire process of cancelling which means you’ll get billed at the end of the free trial.
Your free trial is still active and you’ll be able to access over 1000 book summary titles for the remainder of the time.
