The name Vooks represents a combination of the words “video” and “books” which sums up what this company is offering.
Vooks offers a kid safe, fun, ad free streaming library of animated read-along storybooks for kids.
The library is constantly updated with fresh books every week, inspiring kids to fall in love with reading as well as giving them healthy, educational alternatives to YouTube and other streaming services.
To get started, Vooks offers a 7-day free trial.
The service is available on Apple devices, Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV and Android devices. You can start the free trial by adding the app to any one of these platforms or you can sign up through the Vooks website.
How To Start Your Vooks Free Trial Online
Although Vooks is better enjoyed by kids via apps on tablet or mobile devices, I prefer signing up online and then using my credentials to activate the app.
Below, you’ll find a step-by-step guide on how to start your Vooks free 7-day trial by signing up via the website.
1. Click on free trial button
To get started, go to the Vooks website and click on either the “Sign up” button in the header or the “Get 7 days free” button anywhere on the page.
2. Choose a plan
Clicking on the free trial button will take you to the Pricing page where you can choose from an annual or monthly plan.
Both options offer you a 7-day free trial where you can try Vooks and all it has to offer.
3. Create your Vooks account
Clicking on the Signup button from the homepage takes you straight to the form where you can create your account.
To get started, all you need to do is enter your email address and choose a strong password. You have the option of checking the box to receive updates from Vooks.
You can then click the Agree & Continue button to move on to the next step.
4. Verify your email address
After submitting the signup info, you’ll be asked to verify your email address by checking your email, retrieving a code and entering it into the box on the page.
5. Enter your billing info
After verifying your email address, the next step of the signup process is to enter your billing info.
When you click to pay the subscription, you aren’t charged anything. Your free trial begins and you’ll have access to Vooks.
You’re charged after 7 days automatically when the trial is over unless you cancel. I’ll show you how to cancel below so that you won’t be surprised by an auto-billing.
This step allows you to also use a coupon if you have one.
Once you’ve entered all the necessary info, click on the subscribe button at the bottom of the page.
6. Confirmation sent. Start watching.
On clicking the subscription button, you’ll be sent to the thank you page and can start watching and enjoying video content with your kids.
When you click the start watching button, you’ll be prompted to log into the site with the login credentials you created in the first step.
5. Set up your kids profile
Upon logging in you’ll be greeted with this screen. You have two choices.
You can click on the default profile and you’ll be ready to go. Or you can add a profile for your child. I prefer the latter choice. If you have multiple children then you’d want them to have their own profile.
Click on “Add Profile” to set up a new profile.
Enter your child’s name, age and you can set the preferred language if it isn’t the default English then click Continue.
Choose an avatar or skip this process. Your child can choose something he or she likes. You can come back later and do this step.
You’re done at this point and your kid can start enjoying Vooks with the free 30 days.
How To Start Vooks Free Trial on Android
The website isn’t the only way to sign up and start your free trial. You can do this directly via any of the apps.
My son and I both have Android devices so I’m going to show you how to start the Vooks free trial on these devices.
1. Open app and click “Try” button
After installing the app, open and you’ll be greeted with this page. There are only two things you can do here – either subscribe or login as there is no free plan offered by Vooks.
Click on “Try Free & Subscribe” to signup.
2. Name and email address
On mobile, the setup is three steps instead of 2 so you could say the website provides a much easier setup process.
The first step is to enter name and email address.
3. Set password
You can set your desired password on this screen and also check the box if you want to receive updates from Vooks.
4. Choose billing cycle
Either choose to get charged monthly or on an annual basis. Whichever way you choose, you won’t be charged until the free trial ends.
I chose the monthly billing cycle. I’ll show you how to cancel so that you can try Vooks without paying unless you want to continue using the service after the trial.
5. Choose your payment option
I didn’t see an option to use PayPal when subscribing via the website so if you prefer to use PayPal then it would be better to sign up via the app.
Google gives you three options for payment – credit/debit card, PayPal or a redeem code.
When you’re done applying the option you choose, you’ll be given access to the app by logging in.
How To Cancel Vooks During Free Trial
Once you’ve subscribed to Vooks, you agreed during the signup to be billed at the end of the trial period.
Vooks let’s you cancel anytime during the trial to avoid getting auto-charged. You’ll still be able to access the library for any remaining portion of your free trial.
To cancel Vooks during your free trial, follow the steps below. You can always pay the subscription fee after the trial ends to continue with the service.
1. Go to your Vooks account
Mouse over or click on your avatar in the top right section of Vooks dashboard while logged in.
Click on “Account” to start the cancellation process.
This area is password protected so that your child or anyone using your child’s device cannot access it and make any changes. You’ll need to enter your password to continue.
2. Edit ‘Plan’
To go to where you can cancel, click on ‘Edit’ next to “Plan”.
3. Cancel subscription
Now here’s the tricky part. There are three options here:
- Renew subscription automatically (toggle off)
- Pause account
- Cancel account
When you click (or toggle) each option, you get a pop-up with what each button does and it asks you to confirm that this is what you want to do.
If you toggle off Renew subscription automatically then you would not get charged at the end of the trial. You’ll have to toggle it back on to be charged.
“Pause account” logs you out and resumes when you log back in. Useful if Vooks isn’t going to be in use for an extended period of time but you don’t want to cancel. I’m guessing they would stop billing you until you log in again.
Cancel account does the same exact thing the renew subscription toggle does it appears.
So you could click on either Cancel account or toggle off the renew subscription option. I went for the latter since this is what I want to do. I might continue the service so I don’t really want to cancel the account.
4. Cancellation confirmed
Toggling off the renew button doesn’t give you any visual confirmation that the subscription was cancelled but you can click on the home button and then visit account (as in step 1). When you get back to the account page, you’ll see that your subscription will end on the date when the free trial ends.
You won’t be charged.
Should You Continue with Vooks After Free Trial?
Finding better alternatives to give kids meaningful screen time other than YouTube can be tough.
Vooks is a great option not only because the stories are animated and foster reading but also because it is ad-free and all the content is made for kids.
At only $4.99 per month, Vooks is cheaper than your Netflix subscription and actually cheaper than buying books for your child.
For example, I just looked up Goodnight Underwear, the last book my son read on Vooks before bed and this book costs $25.99 for the hardcover. That is 5 months subscription on Vooks and you get dozens of other books with new additions every week.
With Vooks, content is organized by age group: elementary or pre-school. Or you will see different categories like most popular titles, new releases, books about animals, being kind and so on.
The library is very easy for kids to navigate and find titles they want to read. They can save titles to their list and find these titles by checking under their favorites.
Instead of worrying that your child is always watching YouTube or playing games on their tablet, you can give them this educational alternative that they will enjoy.

After the 7-day free trial ends, Vooks will cost $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year.
If you choose annual billing, it works out to be even less than if you pay monthly, coming in at about $4.17/month.
Vooks may have occasional promos and discounts so it’s worth checking the book to subscribe to their updates via email when you sign up.
