Brown Sugar is a niche subscription streaming service which focuses primarily on showing blaxploitation movies from the 70s and other content aimed at black audiences.
The streaming service is available in the United States to subscribers with Android and iOS devices as well as media streaming devices (FireTV, AppleTV, Roku and Chromecast). You can also subscribe and watch in your browser via the Brown Sugar website.
A subscription to Brown Sugar is priced at $3.99/month so you can watch all the movies and shows available on the streamer. New subscribers can get started with a 7 day free trial.
On this page, I’m going to show you how to get started with a 7 day free trial on the web and on Amazon Prime Video, my two favorite ways to subscribe to any streaming service.
I’ll also give you some other information you might need about Brown Sugar to help you decide if the service is for you or not.

Both of these ways allow you to stream Brown Sugar via the web or you can watch in their respective apps.

What To Watch on Brown Sugar
Although there are several streaming services aimed at black audiences, Brown Sugar positions themselves as a channel for throwback content. They advertise their service mainly as the place to catch 70’s era blaxploitation movies.
But their content library is more than just blaxploitation films. They stream all types of black content made as far back as the 60s and even more recent ones. While they show mainly films, there are also series, comedy specials, music specials and documentaries and more, some from their content partner Bounce TV.
Some of the popular blaxploitation titles you can find on Brown Sugar include:
Although there are some glaring omissions, Brown Sugar does add and remove films from time to time so even through there is Return of Super Fly but no Super Fly this doesn’t mean that they wouldn’t add it in the future.
Other movies are included that aren’t classified as blaxploitation include some black romantic comedies from the last decade.
A few Bruce Lee and martial arts movies are also included.
Some television series included are:
Brown Sugar has a good selection of content for the price and if you’re into 70s cinema and blaxploitation films then you’ll find this streaming service very entertaining. Not sure? Take the 7 day free trial and watch all you want then decide.
