On this page, I’m going to show you how to get started with a 7-day free trial on the web and on Amazon Prime Video, my two favorite ways to subscribe to any streaming service.
I’ll also give you some other information you might need about Brown Sugar to help you decide if the service is for you or not.
How To Start Your Brown Sugar Free Trial
Brown Sugar isn’t as widely available as some of the other streaming services but it is available on the essential platforms via mobile apps for Android and iOS as well as apps for streaming media.
You can start your free trial by simply downloading the app and signing up to subscribe or you can use the two other methods I’m going to outline here.

Getting your Brown Sugar free trial by signing up directly through the official website is one of the best ways to subscribe.

To get started, visit brownsugar.com and click on the button that says “Start Your Free Week”. Then follow the steps below.
1. Fill in your email and password
Fill in the very groovy looking form with your email and password. Confirm your password once you’ve filled it in and then scroll down to check the agreement boxes and hit the continue button.
2. Choose your plan
Brown Sugar offers two plans. One is the monthly plan priced at $3.99/month and the other is an annual plan for $42/year which comes up to around $3.50/month.
Choose one of the plans and then click the continue button.
3. Add your billing information
After choosing your plan, you’ll need to add your credit card so that Brown Sugar can bill you when your trial ends.
There is no PayPal option here so you’ll need your credit card to enter the details. Also, if you have a promo or gift code, this is where you’ll need to enter it.
Click the “Purchase & Subscribe” button to add your billing details.
Once your card has been validated, you’ll be forwarded immediately to your members area where you can start streaming the curated collections of black entertainment.
Add Brown Sugar on Prime Video Channels
Another great way to get a 7-day free trial of Brown Sugar is to use your Amazon Prime benefits and subscribe via Prime Video.
Prime Video allows you to add premium channels like AllBLK, BET+ and Paramount+ all starting with a 7-day free trial.
Brown Sugar is one of those channels you can also add to your Prime Video account and it’s easy to get started.
If you don’t already have a Prime or Prime Video only account, you can start with a 30-day free trial to try it out.
To get started with Brown Sugar on Amazon, follow the instructions below.
- Go to the Brown Sugar channel page in Prime Video.
- Click on the “More details” button on the channel banner
- On the next page, click on “Start your 7-day free trial”
- Confirm your details.
- Click on the “Start Watching” button to start watching Brown Sugar.
Amazon will not charge you at this point as you’re starting your free trial. You’ll be charged $3.99 after your trial ends and every month after that until you cancel. There is no annual option here.
You can cancel at any time during your free trial to avoid being charged.
Brown Sugar Price After Trial
Brown Sugar charges $3.99/month after you’ve completed your free trial. If you sign up via the website, you also have annual option which costs $42 which is essentially $3.50/month.
These charges should not be a surprise to you as you’ll have to choose your plan or confirm your details before subscribing.
Having a promo code can get you a discount on the pricing.
Cancelling Brown Sugar Free Trial
Whether it’s to avoid getting automatically billed or you decide that it isn’t worth adding to your growing collection of streaming apps, you may want to cancel Brown Sugar.
Fortunately, cancelling the streamer is easy no matter where and how you subscribed.
If you signed up via a subscription platform like Prime Video then you’ll need to head into your settings on that platform and cancel. You’ll find similar settings inside the apps.
Here I’m going to outline cancelling Brown Sugar via the online website. It’s super easy to do.
1. Go into your subscription settings
In the top right hand corner of the members area, click on the profile icon. This will immediately open your settings page right where you can see your subscription settings as seen above.
You’ll be able to see the date when your free trial ends and buttons for other actions such as updating your payment method, applying a promo code and cancelling your membership.
Click on the “Cancel Membership” button to continue.
2. Click the “Finish Cancellation” button
The pop-up message assures you that you’ll be ale to watch until the end of the trial period. Click on the “Finish Cancellation” button to continue.
3. Cancel confirmed
Your subscription has been cancelled at this point and this is just a confirmation message. You should also receive an email with confirmation.
There are no surveys to answer.
What To Watch on Brown Sugar
Although there are several streaming services aimed at black audiences, Brown Sugar positions themselves as a channel for throwback content. They previously advertised their service mainly as the place to catch 70’s era blaxploitation movies but now position it to highlight black original series
But their content library is more than just blaxploitation films. They stream all types of black content made as far back as the 60s and even more recent ones. While they show mainly films, there are also series, comedy specials, music specials and documentaries and more, some from their content partner Bounce TV.

Although there are some glaring omissions, Brown Sugar does add and remove films from time to time so even through there is Return of Super Fly but no Super Fly this doesn’t mean that they wouldn’t add it in the future.
Other movies are included that aren’t classified as blaxploitation include some black romantic comedies from the last decade.
A few Bruce Lee and martial arts movies are also included.
