Britbox is a streaming video subscription service mainly offering British television series and movies or as the name suggests, British box sets.
The service was created by BBC and ITV, two of the United Kingdom’s biggest public television broadcasters.
Currently, Britbox is available to viewers in the United Kingdom, The United States, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and Norway, with plans to expand to more countries.
Subscribers in these countries can access Britbox through apps on their smart televisions, desktop, and mobile devices.
You can get a subscription for $8.99/month or save money with an annual subscription of $89.99/year after you’ve taken their free 7-day trial.
Britbox is limited in availability when it comes to digital streaming providers. I haven’t seen it in the add-ons section of YouTubeTV but it’s available through Prime Video Channels and The Roku Channel.
One sure way of getting a 7-day free trial is to subscribe through the Britbox website. I’ll show you below how easy it is to sign up and get going and everything else you need to know about a Britbox free trial.

How To Start Your Britbox Free Trial
There are a few ways to sign up for Britbox where you can get a 7-day free trial so you can decide whether or not you should keep watching.
- Sign up through the Britbox website
- Sign up through Prime Video channels
- Get it through The Roku Channel.
In this section, I’m going to show you just how easy it is to get started with each method.
Signing Up At the Britbox Website
If you don’t already have a Prime account at Amazon then it makes sense to sign up using the Britbox website, unless, of course, you’re interested in the many benefits of having a Prime account.
Signing up through Britbox means you’ll use your signup credentials to log into the website to watch or use the app on your television or mobile device.
You’ll also have only one subscription to manage instead of two.
To get started, you’ll need your credit card and if you’re outside the serviceable region, you’ll also need a VPN.
Go to the Britbox website, click on the Free Trial button, and follow the steps below.
1. Add your email address to create your account
The first step is to add your email address in order to create your account. You can read their privacy policy to ensure that you’re comfortable with how they’re using your data.
2. Complete account creation with name & password
After adding your email address, you’ll also need to add your name and choose a password so that you can log into the website and apps.
3. Choose your Britbox plan
The next step is to choose whether you want to be billed monthly or annually. You’ll save money with an annual subscription as they’re giving you 12 months for the price of 10 months.
On this page, you can also add your promo code if you have one.
Then you can click on the “Continue” button to go to the next step.
4. Six month plan option?
You’ll only see this page if you chose the monthly plan option in the previous step. This offer gives you a 6 month plan option with an additional savings.
If you plan to stick with Britbox for this long, you can choose this option instead of monthly.
I usually encourage people to do monthly. This way you can stop your subscription when you want and then resubscribe as needed. You’ll save more money that way.
5. Add your payment info
The final step is to enter your credit card information. You won’t be billed until after your free trial ends.
There doesn’t seem to be a PayPal option available, only debit or credit card.
6. Enjoy your Britbox free trial
Once your credit card is successfully accepted, you will be forwarded to the members’ area where you can start watching immediately.
You’ll have unlimited, ad-free access to all the British programming available on Britbox free for an entire week.
Starting Your Free Trial through Prime Video
If you’re a Prime Video subscriber, then you have access to over 150 premium channels which you can start watching with a 7-day free trial.
Britbox is one of those channels and it would make sense to subscribe through Prime Video if you’re already a Prime member as you can just keep all your streaming in one place.
As a matter of fact, you can take both free trials (on the Britbox website and through Amazon) and get 14 free trial days.
Here’s how to get started with Britbox through Prime Video channels. First of all, you’ll need a Prime or Prime Video subscription and be logged into Amazon to get started.
Then to add Britbox, just follow the steps below.
- Go to the Britbox channel page in Prime Video.
- Click on the “More details” button on the channel banner.
- On the next page, click on “Start your free trial”
- Confirm your payment details.
- Click on the “Start Watching” button to start watching Britbox.
You wouldn’t be charged until your 7-day free trial expires. You can cancel at any time to avoid being charged.
Get Britbox Free Trial on The Roku Channel
Another great way to get a Britbox free trial is through The Roku Channel.
A free channel for users of Roku devices, The Roku Channel has free movies, TV shows, live TV and premium subscription channels like Britbox, Hallmark Movies Now and IFC Films Unlimited.
If you don’t own a Roku device, you can still subscribe and watch via your browser on a desktop or mobile device.
The Roku Channel gives you a 7-day free trial of Britbox before you start paying for either a monthly or annual subscription depending on your plan choice.
To get started, go to the Roku Channel website in your browser and sign up for a free account. When you’re signed in, follow the steps below to claim your Britbox free trial.
- Go to the Britbox premium channel on The Roku Channel
- Click on the “See plans” button to choose a plan
- Select either the monthly or annual plan
- Click on the confirm selection button at the bottom of the page
- Add or confirm your payment method on the next page
- Click on the “Start free trial” button at the bottom of the page
Your free trial should start immediately and you can watch in your browser or in The Roku Channel app on your Roku device.
Price After Britbox Free Trial
Regardless of where you choose to get your Britbox free trial, the service will cost $8.99/month when your trial expires.
While Amazon doesn’t give you the option to subscribe annually, you can save the equivalent of two months’ subscription by choosing this plan through the Britbox website.
At $89.99, you’re essentially paying for 10 months of service while you’re able to watch 12 months.
Promo and discount codes are also available and can help you save on a Britbox subscription.
How To Cancel Britbox During Free Trial
Since you’re just trying out the service, there’s a chance that you might want to cancel to avoid getting charged.
If you took the free trial on Amazon or The Roku Channel, then this is where you’ll go to cancel and if you took it on the website, then you must manage your subscription there.
Britbox advises that you should cancel at least 24 hours before your trial ends. I normally advise readers to cancel right after signup as long as they’re not going to lose access. Most services would let you enjoy the remaining time in your free trial.
Here’s how to cancel Britbox on the website:
1. Go to your account settings
To cancel, you’ll need to go to your account settings by clicking your name in the top right corner of the screen. Then click on “My Account” from the drop-down menu.
2. Go to subscription settings
In your account settings, click on Subscription to see details of your subscription. This is where you will find the link to cancel.
Under “Your Plan”, you can change to an annual subscription if you’d rather take that option or you can click the “Cancel Subscription” link to cancel.
3. Cancel monthly subscription
Clicking on the Cancel Subscription link will give you this pop-up assuring you that you can watch until the end of your free trial.
Hit the blue button to continue cancelling.
4. Complete the survey and submit
You’ll get a mini-survey to find out why you’re cancelling. Pick one of the answers and submit it.
5. Your free trial is now cancelled
When you submit the survey, you’ll get this popup that shows that your subscription is cancelled. You can continue to watch until the end of the trial period but you wouldn’t be able to continue watching after that unless you re-subscribe.
How To Cancel Britbox on Prime Video
To manage your channel subscriptions inside Prime Video, go to the Prime Video page and click on the wheel next to your name in the top right of your screen.
You’ll be sent to the “Accounts and Settings” page.
Click on channels to see your channel subscriptions. Find Britbox and click on cancel to avoid getting billed.
What’s Streaming on Britbox?
Fans of British television series and movies will love Britbox as the streaming service caters exclusively to this niche.
Programming from UK broadcasters BBC, itv, Channel 4, and Channel 5 are included on the streamer as well as original series you wouldn’t find anywhere else.
You’ll find British content in different genres like:
- Dramas: Downton Abbey, Three Little Birds, Hope Street
- Mysteries: Vera, Poirot, McDonald & Dodds, Death in Paradise
- Comedies: The Cleaner, Moone Boy, Mr. Bean, 8 out of 10 Cats
- Docs & Lifestyle: Black is the New Black, Antiques Roadshow
Britbox lets you discover similar shows by offering a “more like this” list of suggestions while viewing the info page of a show and you’ll also find collections with shows that have something in common. For example, the Agatha Christie collection will have all the shows based on her work included.
Original productions from Britbox are a good reason to get this service. You wouldn’t find these shows anywhere else and there is a fair collection of them on the streamer.
