As the name suggest, Screambox is a horror-focused subscription video on demand service offering movies that you might not find anywhere else.

It’s similar to its closest competitor, Shudder, in that the service is curated by fans of the genre and the movies are hand-picked. The service’s tagline promises that these are horror movies you wouldn’t find anywhere else.

There aren’t many well-known titles or horror classics available but horror fans can access over 400 titles that will satisfy their taste for screams and gore.

Screambox website

Screambox organizes their movies in an eclectic number of horror categories such as Alarming Anthologies, Backwoods Butchery, Yuletide Fear, WTF, Found Footage Freakouts and more.

Screambox is only available to users in the United States although they plan on expanding to other countries in the future. If you want to watch Screambox outside of the United States, you can do so with a VPN service. I use Private Internet Access to access Screambox and to stream their movies.

To get started with Screambox, you can sign up for a free account on their website and watch a limited amount of content with ads. To disable ads and access premium content, you’ll need to upgrade to an annual plan where you get the first 7 days free.

You can also get a 7-day free trial on most platforms where the service is available.

On this page, I’m going to show you how to get a Screambox free trial using some of my favorite services. You can try them one after the other and free trial Screambox for an extended amount of time.

How To Get a Screambox Free Trial

You can watch horror movies through Screambox on your desktop, mobile device or television by signing up through their website, streaming service or an app.

Screambox offers a free trial for you to get started. There are a number of ways to start a free trial but I’m going to show you the best ways here.

To start streaming horror films in about 27 different categories, here are some of the best ways to start a Screambox free trial.

  1. From Screambox.com – sign up directly on their website.
  2. From a subscription platform – Like Amazon, The Roku Channel or Apple TV
  3. From an online streaming TV provider – YouTubeTV

Get a Screambox Free Trial Directly

One of the best ways to get a Screambox free trial is to join directly through their official website.

  • stream directly in your browser
  • Use your login details with any Screambox app to watch on any device
  • choose a monthly or annual payment plan

Registration for a Screambox account is free and easy and you get access to a limited amount of content with ads. To unlock all the other content, you’ll need to get a premium plan which also gets rid of the ads.

There is no free trial on the monthly plan but you can get a 7-day free trial when you choose the annual plan.

Step by step, here’s how to get started with a Screambox free trial.

1. Sign up for a free account

Screambox sign up

Screambox plans

To unlock premium content which is almost the entire Screambox library, you’ll need to choose a premium plan. This also gets rid of ads on the free content available. It also gives you access to a live TV stream of Screambox content.

There are two plans to choose from:

  • Monthly – $6.99
  • Annual – $59.99

No free trial is available on the monthly plan. To get a 7-day free trial of Screambox, you’ll need to subscribe to the annual plan which costs $59.99. You can always cancel before the 7-day free trial expires to avoid getting billed automatically.

3. Enter your billing details

Screambox free trial enter billing

After choosing a plan, you can enter your billing details on the same page. There is no PayPal option available for users, only credit card. The form is secure and your credit card information is store until Screambox is ready to bill you (when your trial expires).

At this point, if you have a promotional code, you can redeem it by entering the code in the box above the form.

Click confirm subscription to continue.

When your payment is confirmed, you’ll be able to stream all the movies and shows on Screambox without any ads. Screambox bills you automatically when your trial expires (after 7 days). You can always cancel before this time to avoid getting charged.

Get Screambox Through The Roku Channel

Roku users can add Screambox through The Roku Channel, an app by Roku where you can watch free movies, television shows and live TV streams.

The Roku Channel also lets you add premium subscription channels like Screambox.

Get The Screambox Addon on YouTubeTV

YouTubeTV is a subscription digital TV provider which offers live TV and on-demand shows and movies on a base plan.

You can add more premium subscriptions to your plan such as entertainment and sports packages and also premium subscription channels like Screambox.

Screambox on YouTubeTV

The service is owned by Google and offers a 14-day free trial if you wish to try it out before committing.

To add Screambox on YouTubeTV, you can do so on signing up or after from the settings page by choosing addons. You’ll get a 7-day free trial which fits snugly inside YouTubeTV’s 14-day trial window.

Go check out the YouTubeTV page to see how the YouTubeTV free trial works and how to add premium channels like Screambox.

Price After Screambox Free Trial

When you sign up for a Screambox free trial, no matter which platform, you’re given the details about your plan. Nearly all platforms charge $6.99/month for a Screambox subscription.

The only place where you have different plan options for Screambox is when you sign up on the official website. Here you can choose from a:

  • monthly plan of $6.99
  • annual plan of $59.99

Your subscription starts with a free trial and then you’re charged the price of the plan you chose on a recurring basis. You can cancel at any time through your settings or with the service with which you signed up.

Promotional codes are available for Screambox from time to time.

What’s Showing on Screambox?

Screambox is a niche streaming website showing horror movies and shows that are tough to find anywhere else. There aren’t a lot of big name horror films or classics you might easily recognize. However, the streamer does have over 400 titles to keep any fan of horror satisfied.

Most of these aren’t well recognized titles and are independently made, low budget movies. This doesn’t mean that they aren’t good. Some may not be worth a watch but there are others you may find interesting.

On most platforms and on the Screambox website, you can browse the titles without having to register.

Some of the titles that looked interesting to me are:

  • Story Game (a Screambox exclusive)
  • Snoop Dogg’s Hood of Horror
  • The Beyond (1983 classic gore film)
  • Sleepaway Camp (also 1983 classic slasher)
  • Masters of Horror (TV show from 2007)

There are many other titles available in niche horror genres such as Slashers, Monster Mayhem, Humorous Horror, Supernatural Power, Ghosts and Spirits and more.

There is even a category called “Only on Screambox” for titles that can’t be found on other streaming services.

If you’re a hardcore horror fan then you can definitely check out the titles on Screambox with a free trial. You’ll know if it’s worth subscribing to after browsing through what’s offered.

Should You Get Screambox?

Screambox isn’t built to appeal to everyone. It’s a niche streaming service that focuses on hard to find horror titles and a few classics.

Competitors like Shudder have a bigger library with more recognizable titles and more original content. Netflix does have a decent and large library of horror titles, many of them titles that less avid fans of horror would recognize.

Screambox does have a low barrier of entry with a $6.99/month plan and a 7-day free trial to check out as many titles as you can. If you’re a hardcore horror fan, you might even want to subscribe to the premium plan and stick around for new titles which are constantly being added.

The decision is in your hands as you can get a free trial from nearly everywhere Screambox is offered.

Feature-wise, the service has apps for all platforms except gaming consoles. You get access to two simultaneous streams and there is a live TV feed alongside the on-demand content.

On mobile platforms, you can download content in the apps to watch offline. No parental controls are available.

You can get a 7-day free trial of Screambox through their website or 7-day free trials through Amazon Prime Video, YouTubeTV or The Roku Channel.
