Magnolia Selects is a subscription video-on-demand service from film distributor Magnolia Pictures. It is a curated collection of films released by the company and its subsidiary Magnet Releasing.
This service is just one of about four streamers by Magnolia Pictures that also include:
- Dox Channel
- Monsters and Nightmares
- Warriors and Gangsters
While the other sister streaming services are niche channels catering to a specific audience ie. Dox Channel for documentary lovers, Magnolia Selects is a more general offering that includes all the content from these services and more.
If you’re looking to join any of the other services, you may want to consider joining Magnolia Selects instead unless you’re just looking for content from that specific niche.
Magnolia Selects does not only carry movies but also includes TV series and mixed martial arts fights. You can preview all the content from Magnolia Selects where ever you choose to get a free trial.
You can access Magnolia Selects in a number of different ways on most devices. There are apps for iOS and Android as well as smart TVs, Roku, and more. You can also sign up through services like Amazon Prime Video Channels or directly from their official website.
To start watching Magnolia Selects, you can get a 7-day free trial to watch all the titles you want before being charged $4.99/month. You can try signing up on multiple platforms, for example, directly and through Amazon Prime Video, for an extended trial.
Below, I’ll walk you through getting signed up with Magnolia Selects and give you some info on how the service works.
How To Get Magnolia Selects Free Trial
You can get a Magnolia Selects free trial of 7 days almost anywhere the service is offered. Whether you download the app or join through a website in your browser, you should be able to get a free trial on signup.
Below, I’m going to show you my favorite ways to sign up for a free trial and what the signup process looks like. You will need a credit card to start your free trial although you’re not charged until the trial ends.
To get Magnolia Selects with a free trial, you can:
- sign up directly through the Magnolia Selects website
- add it on Amazon Prime Video Channels.
- download the app for your device – from Apple or Android stores
In the following section, I’ll show you how easy the sign up process is on my desktop.
Signing Up Directly on Magnolia Selects Website
Normally, one of the best ways to sign up for a Magnolia Selects free trial (or any free trial for that matter) is by using the official website. On the website, they offer the 7-day free trial and you can preview all the movies and see what’s available.
Another reason to use the website is you would only have one subscription to manage. You can use your login credentials on the apps for your other devices and watch anywhere, even in your browser.
I’m not sure if it’s just me but it seems like there’s a problem with the Magnolia Selects website as well as the other sister sites. I had trouble getting pass the registration form for this website. On the Monsters and Nightmares website, I encountered a couple of errors as well.
My suggestion is to not register through the website. You can use one of the apps or try the best method outlined below.

If you don’t already have a Prime (or Prime Video) subscription, Amazon offers a 30-day free trial for you to try it out and see all the perks before you pay. You can start both free trials at the same time. You can find more info here for Prime and here for Prime Video.

What’s On Magnolia Selects?
Magnolia Selects features hundreds of films curated from the Magnolia Pictures library. Magnolia Pictures normally acquires and distributes quality acclaimed films from festivals and distribute them to a wider audience.
Many of the films available on Magnolia Selects aren’t available on other streaming platforms which makes the $4.99/month subscription worthwhile. You can expect foreign genre films like Asian action (ie. Ong Bak, Outrage) and dramatic films like Melancholia and I Am Love.
Magnolia Pictures also has three other SVOD offerings for specific audiences. Magnolia Selects encompasses everything those other streamers have so it may be better to subscribe here instead.
Here are some popular titles present on Magnolia Selects:
There are also a number of television series available to watch including
- Murder Maps
- Murderers and Their Mothers
- Hooked
- Drinking Made Easy
- Gotham Comedy Live
- A Look Back
Fans of mixed martial arts (MMA) can also stream collections of fights available on the platform.
There’s something for everyone available on Magnolia Selects no matter which genre you enjoy most. You can usually preview the library of offerings before you subscribe or take the free trial.
Should You Get Magnolia Selects?
If you like independent movies and foreign films, Magnolia Selects is a good streaming service to consider. The films are curated from the Magnolia Pictures library and many of them aren’t widely available on other platforms.
For $4.99/month, you can get your fix of documentaries, comedy, horror, Asian action films, thrillers, romance, drama, science fiction, and more.
In terms of where to subscribe, Magnolia Selects on Amazon Prime Video may be the best for most people. Or you can simply download the app for your device and take the free trial.
In my experience, it is a waste of time to subscribe through the website. I was unable to get past the registration form using my email and password and the Facebook registration option was disabled.
Roku also no longer carries any of the Magnolia Pictures streaming services.
It’s still a good offering for those who love quality, independently-made genre films and the pricing isn’t too bad.
